Perched at 450 metres above sea level in the quiet highlands of Payangan, Villa Atas Awan is a sanctuary unlike any other. Two century-old Javanese houses — carefully transported from Java and rebuilt on former rice paddies — form the heart of this private estate. Anchored by solid ironwood pillars and finished in rich teak and native tropical timbers, these structures preserve the soul of their origins while meeting every need of the modern traveller.
The highland setting does what no machine can replicate: a natural breeze keeps evenings cool, open terraces blur the line between indoors and jungle, and birdsong replaces the alarm. Close enough to Ubud to enjoy its art and culture, yet removed enough that you return each evening to genuine calm and complete privacy.

Our two primary houses date back over a century. Transported from Java and rebuilt on former rice paddies, they honour a traditional Javanese architectural style where ancient craftsmanship meets contemporary comfort. This is not a replica — it is the real thing.

Villa Atas is your elevated retreat — intimate, serene, and designed around the singular pleasure of waking up above the jungle. Three queen-bedded rooms each offer a private bathroom with both bathtub and shower.
The crowning feature is the second-floor infinity bathtub — a truly one-of-a-kind experience set at the rear of the house, offering sweeping views over a river gorge with rice paddies stretching into the distance. Both second-floor suites open via sliding glass panels directly to the surrounding mountains and lush terraces.
